Gulder Ultimate Search is back

The survival reality show, Gulder Ultimate Search, that used to dominate the Nigerian airwaves and the hearts of Nigerians in the early 2000s, has begun its return after being off air seven years since.

The much-loved reality show which had the sponsorship of Nigerian Breweries Plc, manufacturers of Gulder lager beer, begun in 2004 and had had 11 seasons on air.

Before it ended in 2016, it was declared the most-watched reality TV series in Nigeria.

Recently, its founder and sponsor, Nigerian Breweries, NB, Plc, has officially announced that comeback of the show. Its comeback theme would be “The Age of Craftsmanship”

“The planning team has put in place everything necessary to give the fans exactly what they enjoy about the show, and I am confident that everyone will be pleasantly surprised and delighted with what we have in store.”

Sade Morgan, the Corporate Affairs Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc, said: “We are really excited to be bringing back the Gulder Ultimate Search for the viewing pleasure of Nigerians who have over the years continued to call for the return of the show.

Morgan said registration for the contest would begin on September 1 and close on September 8.

The first screening session would be on September 13 in Abuja and Enugu. The second one would be on September 16 in Lagos.

The TV premiere of ‘Gulder Ultimate Search: The Age of Craftsmanship’ is on October 16. The show ends on December 19, when the grand finale will hold.

Contestants were usually camped in different parts of the country to struggle in search of a hidden treasure. The one who finds it gets instant fame and wealth.

The prize was first at N3 million and then rose to N10 million and a brand new SUV.

Some of the past winners of the show have starred in movies and appeared in TV commercials.


Who Can Apply?

According to the organisers, Nigerians who are between the ages of 21 to 35 can apply as from September 1, via its online registration platform http://www.gulderultimatesearch.ng.

Applicants are to fill in their personal details, upload a photograph and provide answers to a few questions. Registration should be done before the deadline: September 8.

Shortlisted candidates will go through a regional selection process in Abuja and Enugu on September 13 and 14, while the selection will take place in Lagos on September 16 and 17.

The show will air on DStv and other local stations across Nigeria.

The show has had Nollywood actors Chidi Mokeme and Bob Manuel-Udokwu as anchors in previous editions. The anchor for the 2021 edition has, however, not been announced.
