Man impregnates daughter, says it's the devil

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday gave orders for four men to be remanded in a correctional centre for alleged unlawful possession of firearms.

The suspects, Bashiru Shittu, 39; Hassan Omobolaji, 38; Korode Oguntoyinbo, 22 and Abiodun Benson, 23 were charged with conspiracy, belonging to an unlawful society and illegal possession of firearms.

Magistrate A.S Odusanya, who refused the plea of the suspects, ordered that they should be remanded in Kirikri Correctional Centre.

Odusanya directed the police to send the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice, after which she adjourned the case until Jan. 27, 2022 for DPP advice.

Before now, the Prosecution Counsel Insp. Emmanuel Ajayi, informed the court that the suspects and others at large, committed the offence on Oct. 14 at Ibeshe, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

He also said that the four men were members of an unlawful society known as “Eiye’ confraternity.

He explained that the police had, through a distress call from members of the community, been informed that some cultists were attacking one another.

“The police stormed the area, arrested the suspects while others escaped.

“When they were searched, two guns and one expended cartridge were recovered from them,” the prosecutor said.

He also said that the offence was in violation of the provisions of sections 42, 330 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 42 prescribes three years’ jail term for belonging to an unlawful society while section 330 attracts seven years of unlawful possession of firearms.

My wife threatened to kill my first wife, children, Man tells court

My wife threatened to kill my first wife, children, Man tells court

A 59-year-old surveyor, Adeoye Akintoye, on Monday appealed to a Customary Court in Igando, Lagos to end his marriage to Modupe, reason being that she threatened to kill his first wife and children.

“When we met, I told her I had a wife and four children, along the line, she got pregnant for me.

“She threatened to kill herself if I refused to marry. Initially, Modupe wanted me to divorce my first wife so that she can be the only wife but when I refused. She swore to kill her and the children,” he said.

He accused his wife of being mischievous.

”She came to my church with her child and introduced herself as my wife. I warned her not to. Because I did not want my church to know that I had a second wife because I am a deacon and a chorister.

”My church is against polygamy. I will be severely punished now that Modupe has exposed me,” he added.

Responding to the allegations, the 36-year-old trader, Modupe, accused her husband of infidelity.

‘I’ve caught him in bed with his other lovers. He starved me of sex and turned me to a punching bag,” she said.

The Court President, Mr Adeniyi Koledoye, adjourned the case until Feb. 10, for further hearing.

Family Of Late Sylvester Oromoni Kicks Against N1million Bail Granted To Suspects

Family Of Late Sylvester Oromoni Kicks Against N1million Bail Granted To Suspects

The father of late Sylvester Oromoni has frowned at the bail granted to alleged killers of his son. He wondered what the reason behind the bail was when the 21 days requested by the police for investigation was yet to elapse.

Recall that the deceased was allegedly bullied to death by his seniors for refusing to join cult. The five suspects were arrested but have been granted bail of N1 million naira each, by a Magistrate’s court in Yaba.

The Chief Magistrate, Olatunbosun Adeola, after hearing the bail application filed by the counsel for the defendants, ordered the defendants to produce two sureties each in like sum.

Sylvester’s father said,
“Yesterday I was called that those boys were granted bail by a Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos. I said, “why?” I now called the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State and he told me; I was not aware, and that they were not done with the investigation.

I called the DCP in charge of the case who later confirmed to me that the story is true.

But it was a surprise to me that the same judge gave them 21 days which expires on the 28 of this month when the police requested for the remand order. The court granted 21 days to keep those boys.

And the 21 days have not expired, and the court granted them bail. I am calling on President Muhammadu Buhari, the Lagos State Government and the Inspector General of Police to please take note.

Secondly, the police said they are not done with the investigation, that granting the boys bail will not help their investigation, they are getting more facts.

And they were even planning that after the 21 days if they are not done with their investigation, they will ask for an extension. I am surprised that the court granted them bail when the date given has not elapsed.

I am not a lawyer but what the family is saying is that they should allow the police to conclude their investigation. I am not saying that they should not be granted bail but it is the court that gave the police 21 days”

Suspected fake lawyer faces 14 years jail

A man, who had allegedly posed as a lawyer, has been remanded in police custody and may be charged to 14 years imprisonment if found guilty. He was identified as Stanley Adjogbe.

Justice Chinwendu Nwogu gave the order for his remand, pending outcome of investigations into his case. This was due to the suspect’s failure to convince the court and Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Port Harcourt branch, that he was indeed a lawyer during a court appearance on Wednesday.

Ibikiri Otorubio had raised the alarm after he noticed the supposed senior lawyer was ignorant on common points of law.

Otorubo said, “Based on the petition we wrote to the Commissioner of Police, where we suspected he was fake was when the matter on a bounced cheque came up for the first time for a plea. He turned to me and asked ‘Counsel, what is the punishment of bounced cheque?’

“I was taken aback that as very senior counsel he claimed to be, he does not know the punishment for bounced cheque. I now told him, “ah, counsel you do not know? It is two years imprisonment.’

“He now turned to my client and said ‘do what I have said.’ so my client now had to write a petition to the Commissioner of Police, wrote to Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) who said he is not a lawyer who has been called to the bar.”

The Chairman, NBA Port Harcourt branch, Prince Onyekwere, said, “His name is not found in our database. Of course, every lawyer in Nigeria has an enrollment number and the Supreme Court keeps that list of lawyers and Supreme Court has written that they do not have his name.

“What we then did was plead with the court to allow us opportunity with him to produce his call to bar certificate so we will know both NBA and Supreme Court are mistaking and correct that mistake, but we doubt. It is quite unusual that NBA and Supreme Court will not have the name of the lawyer that was called to the bar in Nigeria.”

Since his last trial could not inform the court and NBA the law school attended by the suspect, he was remanded to preempt possible disappearance.
