Mancity’s revenue exceeds Man United’s for first time

Accordingly to the Premier League champions, Manchester City’s revenue has exceeded arch rivals Manchester United for the first time last year. This was disclosed in their latest financial accounts on Wednesday.

City recorded club record revenue of £569.8 million ($780 million) for their title-winning 2020-21 season.

This shows a revenue increase of 19 per cent on the previous year, with an overall profit of £2.4 million.

Across Manchester, United, who finished 12 points behind City in the Premier League last term, recorded revenue of £494.1 million for the financial year ended June 30, 2021.

City’s latest figures, published in their annual report for 2020-21, showed a highly successful campaign for Pep Guardiola’s side.

They won the Premier League and League Cup and got to the Champions League final for the first time, losing 1-0 to Chelsea in Porto.

Matchday revenue fell from £41.7 million to just £700,000 due to matches being played behind closed doors during the coronavirus pandemic.

They returned again to making profits after losing £126 million in 2019-20, when the pandemic first hit.

“The season closed with the team having played 63 out of a maximum possible 64 matches, taking home the Premier League title, winning a record-equalling eight League Cups, reaching the final of the UEFA Champions League for the first time and breaking a raft of records in the process. This is not a club that gives up when the going gets tough,” City chief executive Ferran Soriano said.

“From a business perspective, we were pleased to return to profitability, having successfully navigated the revenue challenges created by the pandemic. Covid-19 did not stop us, and we continued to grow, innovate and develop new ideas.

“And while we cannot dismiss the pain of missing out on the trophy in Porto at our first ever UEFA Champions League final, we must also pause to savour the fact that Manchester City has won three of the last four Premier League titles, and are now looking ahead to what we can do to achieve even greater success in the next stage of our journey.”

"Many of those people attacking you online are your close friends" ---- Ugezu J Ugezu

Taking to his Instagram handle, the actor posted a picture of a part of the city of Lagos in the 1960/70s. He opines that the city was looking more beautiful than it is now.

He blamed “men in uniform” for destroying the country. According to him, if present Nigeria is compared to former Nigeria, one would weep at the outcome.

Recall that the actor had earlier spoken against the ambition of Bola Tinubu to run for the 2023 Presidential election.

This recent post is speculated to be a continuation of his earlier post concerning the former governor of Lagos State.

2023; “I Want To Build On Buhari’s Legacy”: Tinubu Declares

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Lagos governor and national leader of the All Progressives Congress, has said he is aspiring to be president in 2023 so as to build on President Muhammadu Buhari’s legacy.

The ex-governor, who visited the president to discuss his political ambition on Monday, made this statement after meeting with him.

“I have the confidence, the vision, the capacity to rule, build on the foundation of Mr President, and turn Nigeria better. I have done that with commitment and unyielding, you know, in Lagos state,” Mr Tinubu said. “You’ve seen that experience and the capacity to turn things around, and that is what we are doing.”

Tinubu’s presidential ambition a huge joke -Bode George

Peoples Democratic Party stalwart, Chief Bode George, has said the presidential ambition of All Progressives Congress leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, was a huge joke.

During a chat with The PUNCH on Monday, he said this in reaction to Tinubu’s decision to inform the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), of his intention to contest.

“This so-called ambition must be a huge joke. The Presidency of Nigeria is not for characters like Bola Tinubu. Look at how he mismanaged the resources of Lagos State. It is surprising that he can even dream of becoming the President of Nigeria. He is living in cuckoo land,” said George.

The former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP said the turn-out of things and double-crossing by those he trusts would shock him.

Although George admitted there were quality leaders in the South-West who could produce the next President of Nigeria, he, however, said Tinubu was not one of them.

Settling for Tinubu, he said , was an insult for the South-West, which he described as the most sophisticated region in the country.

George also said it was unfortunate that a hallowed ground like the Presidential Villa would be the location for Tinubu to declare his ambition.

Tinubu, who was governor of Lagos State, told Buhari of his intention to contest in next year’s election.

The former governor lamented that he was tired of being a kingmaker and it was time to actualise his dream.

Imo lawmaker throws away kola nut after constituents reject him

A former Speaker of the Imo state House of Assembly, Mr Chiji Collins representing Isiala Mbano State Constituency has, in anger, thrown away a plate of kola nut after one of his constituent members challenged him (Chiji) on his alleged lack of performance.

The Speaker’s reaction was captured in a video which has gone viral on social media.

It started when a member of the constituent present at the occasion with the speaker, courageously began pinpointing the alleged failures of the lawmaker. He further asked the former speaker to state reasons why he wanted support again when the one given to him for the past years yielded no political dividends.

That statement caused an uproar in the gathering as the speaker stood up and demanded the young man to sit down.

The young man however ignored the order and continued with his interrogation, until the speaker tumbled the table that had the plate of kola nut and other items for refreshment.

It was gathered that the Speaker’s action brought the gathering to a close as the chaos scared people in the vicinity and some persons took cover to avoid an ugly story.

Having been elected in 2019 under the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Chiji became Speaker of the State Assembly after he defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, under the administration of former governor Emeka Ihedioha.

In 2020, he defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, when Hope Uzodimma, was pronounced winner of the 2019 gubernatorial election by the Supreme Court. He continued as the Speaker, but was later impeached.

Reacting, Vanguard gathered from one of the loyalists to Chiji, who said his name was Acha, they said the video was edited to blackmail the former speaker and that the young man in the video was unleashing abusive words on the lawmaker and not talking about anything performance.

They said: “The young man in that video was trying to blame Chiji for not speaking out during the time of insecurity in the state the young man is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who was smuggled inside the town hall meeting to cause confusion. They want chiji to get involved in the battle of insecurity in Imo. All they want to confuse is destroy the image of Chiji. So that their own man can become the next Isiala Mbano lawmaker.”

I’m Aware Nigerians Are Suffering – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he is not ignorant of the suffering and pains Nigerians go through to feed under his administration.

In an interview aired on Channels Television on Wednesday, Buhari said he knows that the people are suffering and going through pains under his watch.

The president affirmed, “I’m absolutely aware of it, but like I said, look at the vast population of Nigerians, only 2.5% of the land revenue are being cultivated. We realised this rather too late, but we have to go back to the land (agriculture).”

He however urged Nigerians to make use of the opportunity that agriculture offers in order to find a lasting solution to the current economic quagmire.
Concerning the security situation in the country, Buhari said traditional rulers have a huge role to play in bringing peace to communities.

He also called for more dialogue in solving the farmer-herder clashes recorded across the country.

“The role of traditional rulers must not be undermined, because in their areas they know who is who, even by families, not to even talk of individuals,” he said.

Why Ihedioha can’t join APGA ― PDP

Why Ihedioha can’t join APGA ― PDP

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Imo State chapter, has disbunked rumour of the former governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha quitting the party.

There have been speculations that Ihedioha planned on leaving the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to contest in the 2023 governorship election.

It was insinuated that Ihedioha was having issues with the National Secretary of PDP, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who also hails from the state. So, he had decided to leave the party.

But the state chapter of the PDP, Wednesday, has described the rumour as the handiwork of drowning politicians and desperate agents of darkness who are afraid of PDP reclaiming its mandate in 2023.

A statement from the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Mazi Emenike Nmeregini, submitted that Ihedioha is the party’s brand and that his amazing performances within his short stay in office will be the party’s message for 2023 elections.

“This party initially did not consider a disclaimer necessary, for the simple reason that Rt. Hon. Ihedioha is not known to prostitute between political parties.

“He is known and has indeed remained a consequential leader, consistent major financier, loyal and dedicated member and leader of our party since helping to found it in 1998.

“For emphasis, there is no other truly democratic party in Nigeria and in Imo State in particular, aside from the PDP.

“We are not unaware of the increasing desperation of agents of darkness, who are afraid of the imminent reclaiming of our stolen mandate come 2023.

“It is incontrovertible that His Excellency Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha CON, is our brand. And our message ahead of the 2023 general elections is the celebrated achievements of the Rebuild Imo administration within the seven months.

“The PDP led Rebuild Imo administration laid a solid foundation for the rebuilding process of our state. It is on record that all the sectors of the state were receiving attention before the usurpers broke into the government house.

“We restored salaries and pensions from 70% to 100% and paid as and when due; adequate security of lives and property began construction on over 33 critical roads across the state; flagged off an audacious agro revolution and youth empowerment; aggressive automated revenue system; autonomous local government administration; implemented the Treasury Single Account; Qualitative free education, aggressive investment drive; transparency, accountability, rule of law etc.

“Our party takes pride in the achievements of the Rebuild Imo administration for which we are being pressured by the people of Imo State across party lines to endeavour to seek their mandate to continue the rebuilding process.

“Lastly, we wish to warn mischief makers, agents of darkness, blackmailers, enemies of Imo State, to look elsewhere and stop any such fake news. Imo people are wiser and are vigilant to these and other devices of the enemies”, the party stated.
