Nigerians excited as COAS orders release of romantic soldier

Nigerians on social media have been unable to contain their joy as the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, ordered the immediate release of a detained female soldier, Private Sofiyat Akinlabi.

The COAS has pardoned and ordered for the release of the soldier on Saturday after being detained for 11 days.

She was held on December 14, 2021, following her public acceptance of the marriage proposal of a youth corper simply identified as Remi at the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp in Yikpata, Kwara State.

Many Nigerians and civil society organisations had since called for her release and littered social media with photos of male soldiers proposing to their love interests in uniform.

Also, two petitions on Change.org platform calling for her release had attracted over 10,000 signatures.

The family of the corper had also appealed to the military authorities to pardon Akinlabi, saying the duo met three years ago in Abeokuta where they started their love life.

In what appeared as a Christmas gift to the family and many Nigerians, the COAS ordered the release of the romantic soldier on Saturday.

Taking to social media, many excited users hailed the COAS and declared that wedding plans should commence forthwith.

Ifa Priest says Queen Naomi Can’t Remarry Until She Is Purified

Ifa Priest says Queen Naomi Can’t Remarry Until She Is Purified

Popular and renowned Ifa priest, Chief Ifayemi Elebuibon has advised Yoruba monarchs to consult Ifa before getting married.

He said this in respect to the collapse of the marriage between Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, and Olori Silekunola Naomi.

Chief Elebuibon, in an interview, said that it wasn’t easy for outsiders to understand deeply marital issues between couples.

He, however, advised that Ifa oracle should be consulted as the divine directive was key to success in marriage.

“Today’s Yoruba monarchs should follow tradition while choosing partners. But anything that has to do with marriage, whether for a monarch or an ordinary person, no one can be perfect or wise enough to completely avoid mistakes. It is only God that can make one choose rightly. Yoruba monarchs must consult the oracle before choosing wives. They should not allow modernity to dictate who to marry to them. Saying God has directed me to choose you, may not be enough.”

He also advised the family of the couple not to meddle too much in the embattled marriage as too much involvement of relations might cause disrespect.

My wife threatened to kill my first wife, children, Man tells court

A 59-year-old surveyor, Adeoye Akintoye, on Monday appealed to a Customary Court in Igando, Lagos to end his marriage to Modupe, reason being that she threatened to kill his first wife and children.

“When we met, I told her I had a wife and four children, along the line, she got pregnant for me.

“She threatened to kill herself if I refused to marry. Initially, Modupe wanted me to divorce my first wife so that she can be the only wife but when I refused. She swore to kill her and the children,” he said.

He accused his wife of being mischievous.

”She came to my church with her child and introduced herself as my wife. I warned her not to. Because I did not want my church to know that I had a second wife because I am a deacon and a chorister.

”My church is against polygamy. I will be severely punished now that Modupe has exposed me,” he added.

Responding to the allegations, the 36-year-old trader, Modupe, accused her husband of infidelity.

‘I’ve caught him in bed with his other lovers. He starved me of sex and turned me to a punching bag,” she said.

The Court President, Mr Adeniyi Koledoye, adjourned the case until Feb. 10, for further hearing.

Family Of Late Sylvester Oromoni Kicks Against N1million Bail Granted To Suspects

Family Of Late Sylvester Oromoni Kicks Against N1million Bail Granted To Suspects

The father of late Sylvester Oromoni has frowned at the bail granted to alleged killers of his son. He wondered what the reason behind the bail was when the 21 days requested by the police for investigation was yet to elapse.

Recall that the deceased was allegedly bullied to death by his seniors for refusing to join cult. The five suspects were arrested but have been granted bail of N1 million naira each, by a Magistrate’s court in Yaba.

The Chief Magistrate, Olatunbosun Adeola, after hearing the bail application filed by the counsel for the defendants, ordered the defendants to produce two sureties each in like sum.

Sylvester’s father said,
“Yesterday I was called that those boys were granted bail by a Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos. I said, “why?” I now called the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State and he told me; I was not aware, and that they were not done with the investigation.

I called the DCP in charge of the case who later confirmed to me that the story is true.

But it was a surprise to me that the same judge gave them 21 days which expires on the 28 of this month when the police requested for the remand order. The court granted 21 days to keep those boys.

And the 21 days have not expired, and the court granted them bail. I am calling on President Muhammadu Buhari, the Lagos State Government and the Inspector General of Police to please take note.

Secondly, the police said they are not done with the investigation, that granting the boys bail will not help their investigation, they are getting more facts.

And they were even planning that after the 21 days if they are not done with their investigation, they will ask for an extension. I am surprised that the court granted them bail when the date given has not elapsed.

I am not a lawyer but what the family is saying is that they should allow the police to conclude their investigation. I am not saying that they should not be granted bail but it is the court that gave the police 21 days”

Over 10,000 demand release of romantic soldier detained for accepting corper’s proposal

Nigerians excited as COAS orders release of romantic soldier

Over 10,000 persons have signed petitions for the release of a female soldier, Private Sofiyat Akinlabi, who is currently being detained by military authorities for accepting the marriage proposal of an unnamed corper at the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp in Yikpata, Kwara State.

The first petition was started by activist Deji Adeyanju of Concerned Nigerians and has attracted over 5,000 signatures as of press time. It was titled, ‘FreeSofiat: Nigerian Army should release detained female Nigerian soldier immediately’.

It read in part, “We’re demanding the immediate release of the young female soldier being held by the Nigerian Army before it sparks national global outrage.

“Furthermore, we condemn the prolonged detention and alleged violation of her human rights by army authorities by denying Sofiyat access to members of her family and refusing to provide her with food, sanitary materials, and medical care. Such gross violation of human right, abuse of power and excessive use of force is absolutely uncalled for and condemnable.”

We further call on the Nigerian military and security forces to review and remove all discriminatory rules against servicewomen in its books with immediate effect!”
