Woman tries to settle dispute, stabs bartender to death

A 32-year-old female fashion designer, Omowumi Oyapitan, has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command, for allegedly killing a bartender, Muhammed Ahmed, 30.


The deceased, Ahmed, had reportedly made away with his boss’ N600,000 and went into hiding in a hotel with his friends.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement on Thursday, said the police discovered that the deceased used part of the stolen money to lodge some of his friends in the hotel. He later accused one of them of stealing part of the money.

The police spokesperson said the accusation led to a hot exchange of words between them.

The fashion designer tried to separate the fighting friends but instead got a fist blow from Ahmed.

This annoyed her, so that she broke a bottle and stabbed Ahmed in the neck, leading to his death.

The PPRO said the suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the police at the Onipanu divisional headquarters from the Managing Director of Splendour Guest Inn, Stephen Udo.

Oyeyemi said, “Following the distress call, the DPO, Onipanu division, CSP Bamidele Job, quickly mobilised his men and moved to the scene, where the victim was met in a pool of blood.

“The suspect was promptly arrested, while the victim was rushed to the state hospital, Ota, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, who had been in the hotel since Monday, December 27, 2021, was hiding there after stealing the sum of N600,000 from his boss at Hayorlak Hotel, where he was working as a bartender.

“It was further gathered that he used part of the stolen money to lodge some of his friends. He had an altercation with one of those he lodged in the hotel because he accused him of stealing part of his money; the accusation led to a hot exchange of words between them.

“The suspect, who claimed to know the other boy in their street, intervened and the deceased, who was not pleased with her intervention, gave her a fist blow in the mouth. In retaliation, she broke a bottle and used it to stab the deceased in his neck.”

Oyeyemi, however, said the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday gave orders for four men to be remanded in a correctional centre for alleged unlawful possession of firearms.

The suspects, Bashiru Shittu, 39; Hassan Omobolaji, 38; Korode Oguntoyinbo, 22 and Abiodun Benson, 23 were charged with conspiracy, belonging to an unlawful society and illegal possession of firearms.

Magistrate A.S Odusanya, who refused the plea of the suspects, ordered that they should be remanded in Kirikri Correctional Centre.

Odusanya directed the police to send the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice, after which she adjourned the case until Jan. 27, 2022 for DPP advice.

Before now, the Prosecution Counsel Insp. Emmanuel Ajayi, informed the court that the suspects and others at large, committed the offence on Oct. 14 at Ibeshe, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

He also said that the four men were members of an unlawful society known as “Eiye’ confraternity.

He explained that the police had, through a distress call from members of the community, been informed that some cultists were attacking one another.

“The police stormed the area, arrested the suspects while others escaped.

“When they were searched, two guns and one expended cartridge were recovered from them,” the prosecutor said.

He also said that the offence was in violation of the provisions of sections 42, 330 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 42 prescribes three years’ jail term for belonging to an unlawful society while section 330 attracts seven years of unlawful possession of firearms.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested by the police for allegedly causing his wife’s death in Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area of Jigawa state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, ASP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed the arrest in a statement in Dutse on Wednesday.

According to Shiisu, the suspect was arrested following a report about the murder on Dec. 27, at about 12:50 p.m.

He went on to say that the complainant had said that the suspect had had some misunderstanding with his wife, which led to his hitting her with a stick.

“On Dec. 27, at about 1250hrs, one Bulama Muntari Ubale of Baldi village Sule Tankarkar LGA, reported that, on the same date at about 1130hrs, a couple, one Yusuf Zubairu, aged 26, of Fulanin Mailefe in Baldi village and one Fatima Hardo Dare, aged 23, of the same address, were having misunderstanding between them. And in the process of the fracas, the said Yusuf Zubairu, a.k.a Sallau, used a stick and hit Fatima Hardo (now deceased) on her head.

“And when one Rabi Lawan of the same address came to intervene, the said Yusuf Zubairu, also inflicted serious injury on her,” he said

The PPRO added that upon receipt of the report, a team of policemen rushed to the scene and conveyed the victims to Gumel General Hospital, where Dare was confirmed dead by a Medical Doctor, while Lawan was admitted for treatment.

According to him, the stick was recovered as exhibit. Investigation into the case is ongoing, after which the suspect would be charged to court.

An Islamic cleric, Tunde Olayiwola, was arrested by the Info State police command last week after being caught in possession of a fresh human head. He has however died mysteriously, such that it is generating controversy.

According to reports, the suspect slumped and died at Special Anti-cultist Section of the state police command.

The suspect was caught with the fresh human head at Ajagbale Area of Oka, Ondo town.

He allegedly fell ill a day after he was detained and was undergoing treatment at the police clinic where he gave up the ghost.

The suspect had told newsmen that he had purchased the fresh human head for N60,000 to use it for money rituals.

Olayiwola who said he hailed from Oshogbo, Osun state said “It was delivered to me at home by a man i met at a social function on Thursday morning. I was about to commence the ritual when I was arrested by the police detectives.

” I purposely ordered for the human head to make my life better and it was delivered to me. This is my first time but I want to do it to become rich and live a better life. The head was delivered to me today.”

The suspect however did not mention the names of other accomplices saying he wanted to be rich just as his counterparts.

Speaking, the state police commissioner, Oyeyemi Oyediran said that “the suspect was arrested by men of the state police command after intelligence report that the suspect was about to receive a consignment.

The state Police command image maker, Funmilayo Odunlami confirmed the death of the suspect in police custody. He added that he became indisposed while in detention. Odunlami however did not give details when pressed further.

A 68-year old man identified as Chief P. Omenigor, has been murdered at Ogbe-Ogume community, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Delta State, by yet to be identified assailant.

It was gathered that the incident occurred at his residence at Ogbeinotu area of the community at about 11 pm on Christmas eve.

According to sources, the deceased had come out of his apartment to urinate when he was stabbed with a knife by his assailant. He was said to have died on the spot.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the state contacted, Mr Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident when contacted.

He went on to say that the murderer is not known but that the police had commenced investigation into the matter.

Abandoned vehicle crushes suspected thief at Ogun mechanic workshop

A suspected thief has been found dead under a parked vehicle at a mechanic workshop in Ago Egun area of Idiroko border in Ipokia local government area of Ogun State.

The alleged thief who’s yet to be identified, was in possession of a hydraulic jack and spanners, leading to speculations that he intended removing some parts of the vehicle when he died.

The cause of the death could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report. Howeever, rumours have it that the jack he used in lifting the vehicle failed and the vehicle fell on him, leading to his death.

The Commander of the Ogun State Government-owned So-Safe Corps, Soji Ganzalo, confirmed the incident, “while on routine patrol, a dead body of a man suspected to be on a theft mission was found with an hydraulic jack and and some set of spanners.”

Ganzalo speculated that the man was struggling to come out of the long abandoned car marked, PKA 579 AA, when he died.

The body was discovered at about 6pm at Ago Egun on Thursday.

Ganzallo said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle has been allegedly abandoned and neglected at the scene of the incident, which happens to be a deserted mechanic workshop for almost two years, but all efforts of the owner of the land to get the mechanic engineer to take the car away from the space proved abortive.

“The body of the deceased and the items found at the scene – a red colour hydraulic and scissor jacks, and some sets of spanners, were taken to the Nigeria Police, Idiroko Divisional Headquarters for further investigation and likely prosecution,” he stated.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, did not answer calls to his phone.

Tragedy struck in the capital city of Niger State, Minna due to the death of a female former school principal of Jocis Schools, identified as Comfort Jiya whose death was caused by her child.

A suspected ritualist has been apprehended by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command after he was caught with a fresh human head.

The suspect, who calls himself an Islamic cleric, is named Alfa Tunde Olayiwola was arrested at Oka axis in Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area the state.

Olayiwola, a native of Osogbo, Osun State was paraded at the police headquarters where he confessed to have been caught with the fresh human head in his possession.

He said he committed the offence because he needed the human head to get a better life for himself. He added that he paid N60000 for the head.

He explained that the consignment was delivered to him at home by a man he met at a social function on Thursday morning. As he was about starting the ritual, he was arrested.

He said,
“I ordered for the human head to make my life better and it was delivered to me. This is my first time but I want to do it to become rich and live a better life. The head was delivered to me today.”

Speaking during the parade, the State Commissioner of Police, Oyeyemi Oyediran, explained that the suspect was arrested by operatives of the command after intelligence report that the suspect was about to receive a consignment.

“On the 23rd of December, 2021, at about 9am, the police received an information that a self acclaimed cleric named Alfa Tunde Olayiwola, a suspected ritualistic was about to receive a consignment suspected to be human head.

“The police immediately swung into action and the cleric was apprehended at Ajagbale area of Oka in Ondo town.

“A free head was found in his custody. He confessed that the head found in his possession was to be used to ensure he had a better life.”

The suspected killer of mother of former governor of Edo state, Mrs Maria Igbinedion, has revealed the reason behind her killing the old woman.

The suspect had allegedly committed the murder on December 1, 2021 and fled with some of the deceased’s valuables including jewelry. She was lated arrested about a week ago by the Police operatives in Calabar, Cross River State.

The 25-year-old suspect was paraded alongside 427 others arrested for various crimes in the state by the state Commissioner of Police, Phillip Ogbadu.

Ogbadu disclosed that the suspects were arrested in the fourth quarter of 2021, noting that 32 guns, 420 lives ammunition and 18 vehicles were recovered during the period.

Ogbadu further explained that the suspects would be charged to court. He assured that justice would be done on Mrs. Igbinedion’s killers.

Speaking with journalists, Dominion said she had been served the deceased for one year and three months and that she took good care of her.

She said: “We used to massage her body, so on December 1, at about 11pm that day after massaging her body, I made the bed for her to sleep.

“After that I decided to steal her money from the drawer but she saw me and shouted, so I hit her head with a stool and she died. When I counted the money it was N100,000 and jewelry and I ran to Calabar where I was arrested.

“One Glory, who used to work with the woman, asked me to do that. Madam used to send her to deposit money in the bank and also withdrew for her. She told me to kill the woman so that she (glory) will give me part of her money to take care of my baby, who is sick.”

The suspect, who at first declined speaking with journalists, said the police had threatened to kill her if she mentioned her accomplice.

“The man said they will kill me if I mentioned anybody that I am telling lies. The man is a police officer and he is here,” she said.


One of her sisters, Patient Okoro, who was also arrested, denied having a hand in the murder, as she claimed that her sister only informed her of her crime on phone.

She further said she had helped the police in arresting her in Cross River, and that all those the police had arrested had been released, except her whom the police refused to release.

“My sister is not talking because the police has threatened to kill her if she mentioned her accomplices to journalists,” she said.
